What Will You Learn on the Course?
Slinger Signaller training combines lifting knowledge with practical load-handling exercises.
Depending on the candidate’s route, training can cover Slinger Signaller responsibilities, lift plans, load weight and centre of gravity, lifting points, lifting accessories, Working Load Limits, sling configurations, pre-use checks, recognised hand signals, radio communication, attaching loads, trial lifts, suspended-load control, exclusion zones and safely landing loads.
The aim is to develop someone who can make sensible decisions during a real lifting operation, not simply memorise hand signals for an assessment.
Getting the Load Ready Before the Lift
A large part of safe slinging happens before anything moves.
The lifting team needs reliable information about the load. That can include its weight, shape, centre of gravity and available lifting points.
The Slinger Signaller also needs to establish whether the proposed lifting accessories are suitable and in an acceptable condition.
A sling or shackle physically fitting the load does not automatically mean it is the right equipment for the lift.
The capacity, configuration, sling angles, markings and condition all matter.
Hand Signals and Communication
Clear communication becomes especially important when the operator cannot see the load, the landing point or part of the lifting area.
