Which Slinger Signaller Course Do I Need?

Novice Slinger Signaller Course

Our 2-day novice Slinger Signaller course is designed for people who need proper instruction and practical experience before being assessed.

It covers the fundamentals of slinging loads, lifting accessories, load control, communication and signalling rather than expecting an inexperienced candidate to simply pass a test.

The course has a maximum of three novice candidates.

Training at our Tewkesbury centre starts from £895 + VAT per person. This price is specifically for training at the Tewkesbury centre. On-site Slinger Signaller training in Bristol is priced separately and we’ll provide a quotation based on the workplace, number of candidates and course required.

Experienced Worker Test

If you already work as a Slinger Signaller and have sufficient practical experience, the NPORS Experienced Worker Test (EWT) may be the more appropriate route.

This is a 1-day test-only route and is not a shortened training course. Candidates are expected to arrive with the knowledge and practical ability necessary to complete the assessment.

Experienced testing at our Tewkesbury centre starts from £320 + VAT per person, with up to six experienced candidates. Again, this is the Tewkesbury centre price. On-site testing in Bristol is quoted separately.

Refresher Slinger Signaller Training

Refresher training is available for previously trained personnel who need to update their practical skills and knowledge.

This can be useful where an employer has identified a need for refresher training following a competency review, changes in working practices or a period away from lifting operations.

What You’ll Learn

Slinger Signaller training combines lifting knowledge with practical load-handling exercises.

Depending on the candidate’s route, training can cover Slinger Signaller responsibilities, lifting accessories, pre-use inspections, load weight and centre of gravity, lifting points, Working Load Limits, sling configurations, recognised hand signals, radio communication, attaching and releasing loads, trial lifts, controlling suspended loads, exclusion zones and safely landing loads.

Candidates learn to think about the complete lifting operation — the load, equipment, surroundings and communication — rather than simply learning signals to pass a test.

For candidates using public transport, Ashchurch for Tewkesbury railway station is approximately a five-minute walk from the training centre.

This gives Bristol businesses another option when they only have one or two people requiring training or don’t have suitable equipment available for an on-site course.

On-Site Training Requirements

For Slinger Signaller training at your Bristol workplace, there needs to be a suitable and controlled environment for the practical exercises and assessment.

You’ll normally need appropriate lifting equipment and lifting accessories, relevant operator information and documentation, suitable PPE and a safe training area.

Equipment used for lifting must have the appropriate inspection or thorough examination documentation where applicable, and relevant risk assessments, method statements and lift planning information should be available.
