Which Slinger Signaller Course Do I Need?

Novice Slinger Signaller Training

If you have little or no previous experience of slinging loads or directing lifting equipment, the novice course gives you structured practical and theory training before assessment.

The course is 2 days for a maximum of three candidates.

Training can include lifting accessories, load preparation, recognised hand signals, centre of gravity, safe attachment methods and controlling suspended loads.

At our Tewkesbury training centre, novice training currently starts from £895 + VAT per person. On-site novice training in Birmingham is quoted separately.

Experienced Worker Test

The Experienced Worker Test is aimed at candidates who already carry out Slinger Signaller duties and have sufficient practical ability and underpinning knowledge.

It is a 1-day assessment for a maximum of six experienced candidates.

This is a test route rather than a shortened training course. If someone still needs instruction in slinging loads, lifting accessories or signalling, novice training is the better option.

At the Tewkesbury centre, EWT prices currently start from £320 + VAT per person. Birmingham workplace testing is quoted separately.

Refresher Slinger Signaller Training

Refresher training is available for existing personnel who need to revisit their knowledge or practical skills.

That might include an employee returning to lifting operations after time away, an employer responding to an internal competence review or a lifting team updating its working practices.

The aim is to build competence that transfers into real lifting work.

A Slinger Signaller needs to understand what may happen once a load becomes suspended. Poor accessory selection, an offset centre of gravity or unclear communication can quickly turn a routine lift into a hazardous situation.

In-House Slinger Signaller Training and Certification

Not every employer needs an NPORS operator card.

Vally Plant Training can also provide in-house certificate training and assessment where this is appropriate for the employer, workplace and type of work being carried out.

In-house certification may suit businesses whose employees work mainly on their own premises or controlled sites and need documented evidence of suitable training and competence rather than a nationally recognised operator card.

A professionally delivered in-house certificate can support employer training records, health and safety documentation, insurance evidence, training matrices and PUWER compliance records. In-house certification is not the same as an NPORS Operator Card. Some construction sites, principal contractors, clients or insurers may specifically require NPORS, CPCS or another recognised card, so employers should confirm their requirements before choosing the training route.
