Which Dumper Training Course Do I Need?
Novice Dumper Training
Our 3-day novice Forward Tipping Dumper course is designed for complete beginners and operators who don’t yet have enough practical experience to work independently.
Training develops the candidate from machine familiarisation and daily checks through to safe manoeuvring, loading, travelling and tipping before assessment.
A maximum of three novice candidates can attend.

Experienced Dumper Operator Test
If you already operate Forward Tipping Dumpers regularly, you may not need to complete novice training.
Competent operators can undertake the NPORS Experienced Worker Test (EWT).
The assessment takes approximately 2–3 hours per candidate, with up to six suitable experienced operators assessed per day.
This is an assessment route rather than a shortened training course. Candidates need to demonstrate the required knowledge and practical operating ability without instruction.

Dumper Refresher Training
Forward Tipping Dumper refresher training is also available.
It is intended for previously trained operators who need to update their practical skills and safety knowledge.

What Will I Learn on a Dumper Course?
Forward Tipping Dumper training combines theory with practical machine operation and focuses on the skills needed to operate safely in real working conditions.
You will learn how to carry out pre-use checks, identify defects, use the controls safely, manoeuvre the dumper, receive and carry loads, travel on suitable ground, work on gradients, maintain machine stability, tip materials safely, work near excavations and other plant, and park and secure the machine correctly.
Training also covers operator responsibilities, manufacturer instructions, pedestrian awareness, safe loading areas and shutdown procedures.
Dumper Safety on Busy Birmingham Sites
Forward Tipping Dumpers often work in areas shared by excavators, telehandlers, delivery vehicles, groundworkers and other site personnel. This makes awareness of the surrounding work area particularly important.

NPORS is generally the appropriate route where operators need recognised certification for construction sites, contractors or wider industry use. In-house training may suit businesses whose employees operate company machinery within their own controlled working environment where a national operator card isn’t required.
An in-house certificate is not an NPORS Operator Card.
