Why Professional Crusher Training is Essential

Crusher plants contain powerful moving parts and are frequently operated alongside loading shovels, excavators, conveyors, and heavy vehicles. Without appropriate training, significant hazards can arise.

Potential risks include:

  • Contact with moving machinery
  • Conveyor entanglement
  • Flying debris and material ejection
  • Unsafe blockage removal
  • Dust and noise exposure
  • Incorrect machine operation leading to breakdowns
  • Collisions with other plant
  • Injury to operators or nearby workers

Professional NPORS training equips delegates with the knowledge required to recognise hazards and operate crushing equipment safely and efficiently.

HSE Guidance and Safe Crusher Operation

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) expects employers to ensure operators receive suitable information, instruction, training, and supervision before operating crushing machinery.

Throughout the course delegates learn:

  • Safe systems of work
  • Dynamic risk assessment
  • Hazard identification
  • Safe loading procedures
  • Isolation and emergency stop procedures
  • Safe working zones
  • Communication with other plant operators
  • Operator responsibilities

These principles support safer workplaces while helping businesses maintain efficient production.

PUWER Compliance and Employer Responsibilities

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 require employers to ensure equipment is:

  • Suitable for its intended purpose
  • Properly inspected and maintained
  • Operated by trained and competent personnel
  • Used within safe systems of work

Recognised NPORS Crusher Training helps employers meet these responsibilities while improving workforce competence and operational standards.

Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Crusher Training in Evesham is delivered at a suitable customer site using the crushing equipment your operators use at work. We do not operate a permanent crusher training centre in Evesham. On-site delivery allows the instructor to make the course relevant to your machine, processed materials and normal working environment.

Training can be delivered on suitable mobile or static crushing equipment, including jaw crushers, impact crushers, cone crushers, tracked crushers, recycling crushers and associated aggregate-processing plant. Tell us the make, model and configuration of your crusher when enquiring so we can confirm the appropriate training arrangements.

No. Operators with little or no previous experience can complete novice Crusher Training. Candidates who already operate crushing equipment competently may be suitable for an Experienced Worker Test, while previously trained operators may require refresher training. Our team will discuss each candidate’s experience before recommending the appropriate route.

Yes, provided the operator already has sufficient practical experience and can operate the crusher safely without instruction or coaching during the assessment. The Experienced Worker Test is an assessment route rather than a shortened novice course. Read our NPORS Experienced Worker Test guide before deciding whether this route is suitable.

Course duration depends on the candidates’ previous experience, the training route, the type of crusher and the number of operators being trained. An Experienced Worker Test may be completed within one day, while novice training requires additional time for theory and supervised practical operation. We will confirm the expected duration after reviewing your requirements.

The course covers pre-use inspections, safety devices, controls, safe start-up, material feeding, monitoring the crushing process, conveyor hazards, exclusion zones, dust and noise, blockage prevention, emergency procedures, shutdown and defect reporting. Training is adapted to the machine and operating conditions at your site wherever appropriate.

You will need a suitable crusher, the relevant operator manual and machine documentation, a safe training area, suitable material, appropriate site controls and candidates with the required PPE. The machine must be serviceable and safe to use. Review our On-Site Plant Training Requirements before arranging the course.

Training covers blockage prevention, isolation procedures and the principles of dealing with crusher blockages safely. Candidates must never enter, reach into or work on crushing equipment until the machine has been properly stopped, isolated and secured in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and site procedures.

Successful candidates completing the applicable NPORS training and assessments can receive the relevant NPORS certification or Operator Card, subject to the route selected and current NPORS requirements. Card acceptance can depend on the employer, client, principal contractor and site, so confirm the required certification before booking. Our NPORS Cards Explained guide explains the main card routes.

Customer-site Crusher Training is quoted individually because the price depends on the course route, candidate numbers, training duration, location and equipment available.
