1. Understanding the Machine

• Walkaround inspections

• The Health and Safety at Work Act

• PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)

• Safe manoeuvring in confined and open spaces

• Load stability, balance, and height control

5. Lifting and Handling Techniques

• Lifting plans and communication with slinger/signallers

• Load weight estimation and balance

• Load placement and removal procedures

• Use of rated lifting accessories and compliance with load limits

6. Emergency Procedures

• Responding to mechanical failure

• Site evacuation and shutdown procedures

• Emergency stop use and safe dismounting

7. Machine Shut-Down & Post-Use

Each participant will be assessed through:

• A multiple-choice theory test

• A practical skills test demonstrating machine control, safety compliance, and proper lifting techniques

On successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card and Certificate, valid for up to 5 years.
