What is Lorry Loader (HIAB) Training?
Lorry Loader Training teaches operators how to safely inspect, set up and operate lorry-mounted cranes, often referred to as HIABs, for lifting and moving loads.
The course covers the safe use of stabilisers, crane controls, lifting accessories, load handling and communication while working in accordance with current lifting legislation and industry guidance.

Lorry Loader (HIAB) Training is intended for delegates who operate or are required to operate lorry-mounted cranes as part of their work.

Important: A current manufacturer’s operator’s manual must be available for every lorry loader used during training or assessment. If a suitable manual cannot be produced, Vally Plant Training reserves the right to delay or stop the training until one is available.
If you’re booking an Experienced Worker Test (EWT), each candidate will be professionally profiled before the assessment. Candidates must be able to demonstrate sufficient practical operating experience and may be asked about previous training, qualifications and the types of lorry loaders they have operated.
If insufficient evidence of previous operating experience is provided, the instructor may refuse the Experienced Worker Test and recommend refresher or novice training instead.

There are two certification options:
- NPORS traditional card (valid for 5 years)
- NPORS card with CSCS logo (initial RED trained operator card valid for 2 years, upgradable to BLUE competent operator card upon completing relevant NVQ)
